Notes From the CEO

Dear Hendersons Families,

Let’s not talk about Melbourne weather!

It has been a quite remarkable January for us at Hendersons.  Having moved to our new premises six months ago, it was the first time in our history that we have had so many of our workshops in one venue.  Some days we have had all 14 classrooms being used as well as our practice exam room that is used for up to 25 students.  We had students working with our talented teachers seven days a week from Wednesday 2nd to Sunday 27th of January.  Over 1500 students came through our doors in that time, although many of that number were children doing multiple workshops.  In fact, the staff on reception began to recognise faces each day as students gave up their holidays to prepare for impending exams in the next few months.

Workshops have started for 2019 at our other venue in Yarraville at the Community Centre in Francis street.  These workshops are only for Year 8 & 9 students; however, I will be holding information sessions at the venue in February and March for our families that live in the west of Melbourne.

We have also started the many practice exams that help in the preparation process.  Please check you booking confirmation carefully as we run some of these at the Tooronga Road venue, but still run some at the Holy Redeemer Church Hall for larger numbers of students.

Today’s eNews has a timely reminder about booking practice exams and an important piece about a change in format for the SHS exam in June.  If you have been to a free information session you will be aware that Hendersons doesn’t have direct contact with the examination bodies, so when we become aware of any changes, we make sure we adjust our courses and materials as soon as possible to continue to meet the needs of our families.

As children go back to school over the coming days, we wish them well in the new school year.  As adults we quickly learn that every day is a school day, but for our children it will be a year of discovery, exploration, inquiry and growth.

(…and I hope all schools have sufficient air conditioning for February!)

Best wishes,

Peter McOrist

Chief Executive Officer
