Testing for scholarships at this prestigious school takes place in November 2016 for students to take up the scholarship from the beginning of the 2018 school year.

The tests will be conducted by Edutest™ and cannot be shared with other schools.

  • Students entering year 5 in 2018 (for external students only) will sit a November exam.
  • Students entering year 7 in 2018 (for external and current students) will also sit in November of 2016.
  • Students entering year 10 in 2018 (for external and current students) will also be tested in November.

Please be advised that the results of the scholarship testing will remain the property of the School and will not be released to families or shared with other schools.

Haileybury's new campus at 383 King St, Melbourne may hold their test in November. However, for 2017 scholarships they held their exam in April.

Edutest™ Exam Papers

Written Expression

There is one piece written in just 15minutes in an Edutest exam.  This area looks to assess the ability of the writer to clearly convey their thoughts in a written piece.  The Edutest™ website refers to the assessment of punctuation, creativity, construction, grammar, spelling and relevance to the task.

They may ask the student to write a narrative or in another genre.  Since Edutest began testing in Victoria in about 2001, they have asked student to write creatively.

Mathematics

The Edutest™ website refers to mathematical knowledge, including number, measurement, algebra, space and data.  30 minutes is given for 60 questions. We estimate the level tested is more then 12 months ahead of what they students are doing at school.

Reading Comprehension

The Edutest™ website notes that this area “measures the capacity to read and interpret meaning from written passages and sentence correction.” 30 minutes is given for 50 questions.  We estimate the level tested is more then 12 months ahead of what the students are doing at school.

Numerical Reasoning

This paper examines how well a student can think and reason numerically.  30 minutes is given for 45 questions.

Verbal Reasoning

This paper looks to see how well a student can think and reason using words.  30 minutes is given for 60 questions.
